On that note- we took our sign home with us after we closed shop on Sunday in case you were wondering where it went. We liked it enough we plan on using it next year.
Liked: That everything was on the same floor, and quick badge lines
Disliked: all the changes in schedules (Scott McNiel canNOT be in two places at once!), the fact that we (my group) never got a reply from the website to the two emails we sent requesting an artist's alley table (thanks to some explanation and a bit of begging, we did get a table, albeit an obscurely located one right next to the dealers room where everyone was spending their money)
Liked:Extremely faster lines compared to last year.I also liked the signs on the door, the awesome guests yall snagged, the amount of dealer's and artist alley peeps, organization of the con.I do wish that you had bigger signs, but I may just be blind. Some dealer's allowing us to work at some booths for store credit.:)
Disliked:I heard rumors that a certain dealer were rude, especially to my friend."If you don't know anything about Japanese airsoft gun,GTFO of my booth." The whole adding tax thing, haven't heard of this since Anime Matsuri,is this a new policy? Everything else was hotel related.
I'm putting the dislikes first, because it's always good to finish on a positive note and the good far outweighed the bad!
Dislikes: pre-reg wasn't up and running on time, no direct link to the forum from homepage, no flyers for me to print out and spread around, there was barely *anything* going on at con on sunday and all the rooms shut down veeery early, one of my favorite dealers got half of the space they were promised and another one probably won't be coming back because of the expense. Also, I kinda wish that more of the music at the rave/dance was remixed anime music like it was the first year. I think it'd tie in better. And I know for a fact that there was drug use going on. That's a problem.
Likes: the new look for the website, ease of picking up my badges, everything being on one floor of the GRB, all the rooms being grouped so well, the maps that were put up (yay for maps!), the signs, the awesome guests, the fantastic cosplay contest, and pretty much everything else!
Overall, I think things went very smoothly and many of the problems from last year were fixed this year. Big BIG thank you to everyone who worked on this convention, ya'll did a wonderful job! Can't wait for next year!
Oni-Con was great this year! I liked all the great voice actors you guys got and putting out a schedule for us. Even though there was some changes made throughout the weekend, you guys did good putting up notices. Thanks for the map too! I didnt get lost this year xD
Some things I didnt like...well, I'd have to say, the pre-reg was kinda terrible. What happened to the personal badge names too? All of our pre-reg tickets had the exact same name on it...a clone of the buyer! And you guys ran outta lanyards too ;_; They look so awesome. Another thing I didnt like was the dealer's room. I hated it being in such a small space where crowding was a big problem. I think one gigantic room would've served better. Well, kudos to you anyways, Oni-Con. It was fun and I had an awesome time. Thanks!
>_>
well i'm not gonna lie I ran into quite a few Problems that i HAVE to spill out.
first off. One of the dealers was a complete douche bag. the asian guy with short cut hair. he sold like shadow the hedgehog beenies and a lot of shirts and ****.
My friend went up there and bought the shadow beenie and then when realizing the hat was wayyy too small he came and asked "is there a different size in this?"
"ITS ONE SIZE FITS ALL YOU HAVE A SMALL A HEAD IT FITS!"
so.. whatever. we just left. and then went to the guy who was selling corsets. and the guy from the other booth went up to my friend while he was trying on a corset and said "YOU DIDNT Pay for that Hat"
"yes i did it was 14 dollars"
"yah you didnt pay that"
"i did. and i just came back a second time to see if i could change hats and you said no"
"NO. you didnt"
what the hell. Why would anybody steal something and then stay in the same room doing somethin so ridiculously attention-grabbing as trying on a corset ?? gimme a break.
then on sunday i went to look at a shirt not even realizing i was at that guys booth and as soon as i picked up a shirt to see the whole design he was like "If you unfold it you buy it"
.......
I'm not even gonna say anything else about THAT. completely rude for NO reason.
not only that. another MAJOR problem i had was the Security at the concert. i honestly was NOT happy with at all.
there was this drunk guy behind me and my friends rubbing his crotch area all up on our ***** and had his elbow resting on our heads basically. trying to freak us all out to get his way to the front of the crowd. and instead of getting into a physical confrontation and risk getting kicked out of the concert and the whole convention i wanted to find just ONE security person and flag em down for help.
but no. the only time i EVER saw security was when that one guy made those girls let go of the drumstick after they were fighting over it for like 5 minutes just to keep it for himself.
and after that last encore I got trampled for a shirt that i wasnt even holding on to for more than 10 seconds. once i finally got off the ground my glasses were missing. i know THATS not securitys fault or anything that i got pushed down but they seemed to just be there to watch the concert and not even make sure everyone was okay. i'm almost positive that i saw one of them in the crowd fighting for concert merch with the rest of em.
So i was just looking around for my glasses. with my hand all bloody and scratched up from getting stepped on and ****. and security starts yelling "THE CONCERT IS OVER YOU NEED TO EXIT!!!"
when theres people EVERYWHERE else still fighting over a ****shirt!
So i asked "Please have you seen any glasses?"
NO BUT IF THEY TURN UP WE'LL TURN IT IN TO THE LOST AND FOUND KTHXBI
not even for TWO seconds did they look
and i had been looking for at least 15 minutes in a riot.
some girl ended up finding them for me in the front row of the seats. no help from security whatsoever yet they wanted to kick me out all blind. I COULDN'T SEE WHERE I WAS GOING.
those were two of my main problems that REALLY aggravated me to the max.
other than that i just would have liked if there was more events and panels, and signs would be nice...
I also think this entire website needs to be revived. because people didnt know about a LOT of things until they checked the website minutes before driving to the con ya know...
on the PLUS SIDE:
i still had fun doing various things in the hotel and hanging around
when i got there pre-registration was moving quickly. i was out in 15 or less minutes i believe. that was nice.
I'm sorry to hear that Security was so ridiculous to you. Honestly they do start to get stressed out after awhile. We had a lot of drunk guys, and had to call the police at the masquerade ball. The guys were just on edge probably, and just trying to be efficient.
As far as the lost and found thing goes, I don't know about them not looking. They might have been under some time constraint from the band's manager for Oni-Con, or something.. but I'll let the security guys speak for themselves.
Liked: Quick badge lines and awesome staff.
Disliked: Lack of signs on doors. (And yes, I know there were maps, but signs would have been helpful)
Heh, there were signs. About 85% of them turned up missing.
